John C. Weyer was the first Mayor of the Village of Norwood, serving from September 10, 1888, to April 1, 1891. Although a Republican, he ran under the "Regulars" ticket for that first election. Weyer was on the Norwood Platting Commission for several years in the late 1890's to the early 1900's. A Norwood street — Weyer Avenue — is named after him. The Norwood Branch Library sits at the southwest corner of Weyer Avenue and Montgomery Road.

Weyer was one of the founders of the Norwood Methodist Church. He continued his support as a Trustee and a Steward of the Ivanhoe M. E. Church.

Mr. Weyer received his education at Oberlin, Ohio, then taught school at Columbus, Ohio. Later he became Assistant Superintendent at a State Farm at Columbus. He started his pharmacy career after he completed a course in pharmacy at the Cincinnati College of Pharmacy, where he was made Director. Weyer was also the founder and a President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Ohio. He served eight years on the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, and for more than 28 years, he was manager of the Retail Druggist Mutual Fire Insurance Company, which he organized. While serving as Mayor of Norwood, he also had the business "John Weyer & Warren W. Ford, Druggist," at the northeast corner of 4th and Smith, Cincinnati.

He served five years with the Twenty-fifth Ohio Volunteers, and was wounded at Chancellorsville. At the close of the war, he came to Cincinnati, and later moved to Norwood.

John Weyer was born September 17, 1838, in Belmont County, Ohio, to David and Magdalena Weyer. His wife, Margaret A. (nee Kelly) Weyer, died on October 8, 1907, at the age of 62. Their son, John Weyer died of convulsions at the age of 9-1/2 years, on August 27, 1885, in East Norwood.
